UEFA have written to the Football Association thanking the English game for playing a powerful role in bringing down the European Super League.
Sportsmail understands European football's governing body have contacted the FA's chief executive Mark Bullingham, commending the organisation and the wider English football family for their impassioned efforts that triggered the dramatic collapse of the controversial project on Tuesday night.
The FA have staunchly opposed the attempts of 12 European clubs - including Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, to establish a new breakaway division to replace the Champions League - UEFA's premier club tournament.
Likewise, fans, former players and celebrities have publicly displayed their anger at the proposals - with many clubs citing the outrage as reasons for their embarrassing U-turns.
And the robust collective efforts of English football in helping eliminate the immediate threat of a European Super League has compelled UEFA to express their gratitude to the FA.
Having released a statement condemning the proposals on Sunday the FA have been at the forefront of the battle against breakaway plans.
Indeed, it is understood the governing body were instrumental in facilitating urgent talks between Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Premier League chief executive Richard Masters on Tuesday.
Indeed, Sportsmail understands Johnson's threat to drop a 'legislative bomb' on the controversial plans during those discussions is what sparked the eventual collapse of the European Super League.
Well placed sources have indicated Johnson's bombshell comment was the catalyst for at least two clubs to start pulling out amid the realisation that the Government would not allow the proposals to go through dawned on.

UEFA are a monopolist in this game and are doing their best to make as much 💰 as they can... Now is the time clubs and national FAs to negotiate for a bigger peace of cake to be given down on the football pyramid and reach the clubs. Also, there must be some regulations on the 💰paid for agent's fees and to finally start using the financial fair play...

UEFA and FIFA are just stupid , the USL has now brought awareness to some proper minded football fans that the CAKE isnt divided equally . imagine UEFA paying the winner £100m in every season's tournament . is £100m a season reflecting the expenditures in a club ? (salaries , purchases , running fees ) ??? ofcourse not .. so how are these clubs going to generate more income now that there are no fans in stadiums ?? how can you buy a world class player with the existance of greedy agents like Raiola ?? how ?? as a result clubs are only adding debts each year 😔 .. i really feel bad for these clubs .. we fans dont really know what they are going through behind closed doors .
