American billionaire Jahm Najafi is reportedly considering an approach to buy Everton, despite having previously been linked with Tottenham.
The Iranian-born businessman had been connected with Spurs, and was thought to be preparing a £3billion take over of the north London outfit - but now looks to be eyeing one of their Premier League rivals.
Najafi has already built up an impressive portfolio of investment in the world of sport, including NBA franchise the Phoenix Suns and F1 team McLaren, where he is the vice-chairman.
Speculation swirled with increased intensity over an approach for Spurs when he was spotted with Levy at the Bahrain Grand Prix on Friday
However, their encounter was not thought to be related to a move for the club.
Levy had been invited to the opening race of the 2023 F1 season having agreed to build an indoor circuit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Instead, Najafi will reportedly look to purchase a stake in the Toffees, which could include a contribution to the costs of their new home in Bramley Moor Dock.
And although Najafi already has history of investing his fortune in other sports, Everton would not be the first football club for him to purchase shares in.
He has stakes in both Germany's Augsburg and Portugal's Estoril, in addition to the £300million he has in McLaren through his MSP Sports Capital company.
While Friday's encounter is thought to be the first time Levy and Najafi had met, the former is believed to have been in the company of Najafi's Tottenham-supporting business partner Jeff Moorad.
Levy's partner Joe Lewis is open to selling Tottenham but is thought to want closer to £4.5bn for the club.
Everton - currently owned by Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri - have been in turmoil with their fans urging the board to leave the club.
Toffees supporters have repeatedly staged protests against members of the club's hierarchy, including Moshiri, Bill Kenwright and Denise Barrett Baxendale.
