Jonathan dos Santos was the hero as his goal saw Mexico edge the United States in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final.
Match Events
6' CLOSE! Pulisic misses a great chance!
Pulisic dribbles into the penalty area after a pass from Altidore, and the former tries to beat Ochoa at the near-post but the Mexican 'keeper does well to parry it away!
8' CHANCE! Altidore’s shot wide out
Altidore somehow mises from near the penalty area! He had won a great duel with Moreno, turned the defender, lined up the shot... and then somehow pulled his shot right of goal! He almost always scores from there!
31' Arriola misses a good chance!
After some miscommunication within the Mexican defence, Arriola manages to take the ball in the penalty area before dragging a shot agonisingly close to the far post!
51' Guardado makes goal-line clearance to deny Morris
Morris rises above everyone and hammered a header past Ochoa, but Guardado was on the post and managed to head it off the line!
73' GOAL! United States 0-1 Mexico (Dos Santos)
Jimenez plays a lovely back-heel into the path of dos Santos who, from just inside the box, struck his left-footed shot well, lifting it over a diving Steffen!

1. The ref was absolutely atrocious. So many obvious cards to be given in my opinion. 2. Whatever Tata told the Mexican players at halftime must’ve been the exact opposite of what Berhalter said. The change from the first to second half when it came to possession was huge. 3. Berhalter used his last sub for a LB when his team was down 1-0 in a championship final. WTF. When you have nothing to lose and everything to gain, you need someone who can score and who has scored throughout the entire tournament, in this case, Tyler Boyd should have been brought in for Reggie Cannon. Cannon hasn’t performed the entire campaign but was aloud to play this entire game. 4. Michael Bradley’s age really showed against this Mexican team. Maybe it was because he wasn’t wearing the Captain’s band, but his performance in this final was pitiful compared to his playing throughout the rest of the tournament. Is it just me, or did it look like he had bricks on his feet? 5. Zardes was awful. He was brought in to increase the pace up front and create a more dynamic attack. I can’t remember him even remotely contributing to his team. All he did was lose ariel duals. All in all, this was an exciting game for both teams but came down to better coaching from Tata. The Americans played a great tournament and I’m excited to see what’s in their future.

Equal pay is deserved! The USA women’s team are winning trophies for their country but are getting paid less. The USA men’s team is just going to the finals and not winning, but getting paid more. #EqualPay

Altisnore should not be a starter there have to be better options. Berhalter should leverage some of the talent klinsmann already vetted and also tap into that European scouting network. Morris made a mistake not going to Europe to develop and I think it shows, people cannot use Landon Donovan as an argument because Landon came back to USA after developing in Europe.
