Defending champions the United States produced another commanding performance to ease past Chile and qualify for the World Cup last 16 with a game to spare.

The USA, who beat Thailand 13-0 on Tuesday, went ahead after 11 minutes as Carli Lloyd scored for a record sixth consecutive Women's World Cup match.'

Julie Ertz' well-taken header doubled the advantage, before Lloyd, 36, made it 3-0 with her 10th World Cup goal.

But Lloyd missed a hat-trick chance as she hit an 81st-minute penalty wide.

The spot-kick was awarded on a video review by the referee, following a foul by Yessenia Huenteo on the edge of the area.

Chile captain and Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Christiane Endler produced a series of excellent second-half saves, including a stunning point-blank reaction stop to deny Christen Press.

The USA return to the top of Group F on goal difference, level on points with Sweden who they face in their final group game on Thursday.
