Game is over and the final score is Udinese 1-1 Napoli. Here is the match report.
Match Report
Victor Osimhen scored the goal that crowns Napoli the Champions of Italy for the third time, after Sandi Lovric and Udinese had tried to postpone the party again.
After failing to beat Salernitana last week, the Partenopei knew a point at the Dacia Arena would be enough to guarantee the title, so the Stadio Maradona was also sold out with fans watching on big screens. Mario Rui and Matteo Politano were the only injured players, while Udinese missed Beto, Isaac Success, Simone Pafundi, Gerard Deulofeu and Enzo Ebosse. The Friulani had managed only one draw in their last 14 competitive meetings with Napoli since a 3-1 home victory in April 2016.
However, this didn’t start to plan either, as Destiny Udogie laid it off for Sandi Lovric, who was given far too much time and space to control, adjust and pass it into the far top corner with the inside of the right boot from 16 yards.
Kvicha Kvaratskhelia went down when running into Rodrigo Becao on the very edge of the area, but the referee let play continue.
Lovric tested Meret again with a scorcher from distance, while Victor Osimhen’s towering header skimmed the upright and Jakub Bijol’s header into the ground bounced back over the bar.
Straight after the restart, Walace drilled wide from distance, but Napoli finally got their breakthrough. A corner was pulled back to the edge of the box for the Kvaratskhelia scorcher parried by Silvestri into the path of Osimhen to score from 12 yards on the rebound. The Nigeria international was celebrating so much that he accidentally broke his protective face mask and played without it for a few minutes before repairs were completed.
Meret took the sting out of a Becao strike and Osimhen had the ball in the net again, but only after play had already been stopped for the Eljif Elmas high boot.
Silvestri kept the scoreline down with a great save on Piotr Zielinski’s half-volley after Elmas floated a ball over the top.
