Peru rarely tested Uruguay in their Copa America quarter-final, but Luis Suarez's missed spot-kick proved costly in a shock defeat.

Match Events
24' Unbelievable! Cavani fires his shot into the sky
Suarez does brilliantly to dribble his way through on goal, only to be denied by a smart save by Gallese. The rebound bounces kindly into the path of Cavani, but he volleys an effort over the bar from six yards! He will be kicking himself for missing that.
30' Disallowed! De Arrascaeta scores but the goal is offside first
Nandez's cross in from the right deflects into the path of De Arrascaeta, who hammers home a finish from 12 yards, but the offside flag is raised! Nandez needlessly strayed into an offside position before being picked out in space down the right.
59' OFFSIDE! Cavani’s goal disallowed
Suarez is provider once again as he plays Cavani delightfully through on goal, and the PSG striker produces a wonderful finish, lobbing a curled effort in at the far post! He runs off in celebration, before the linesman raises his flag very, very late!
75' Disallowed! Suarez scores but the goal is offside again
Uruguay will have to be wondering what they need to do to score here! Suarez ghosts in behind his marker to get on the end of a delicious delivery from Caceres bent in behind the defence, turning it in coolly from close range, but again the flag is raised to cut Uruguay's celebration short! It's another really tight decision.
Match Reports
Luis Suarez missed his spot-kick as Uruguay suffered a 5-4 penalty shoot-out defeat to Peru in the Copa America quarter-finals following a 0-0 draw in Salvador.
Edinson Cavani squandered a glorious chance midway through the first half, while Diego Godin was guilty of similar profligacy after the interval as Peru hardly tested their opponents at the other end.
Uruguay, who also had a goal disallowed in the first half, twice fell foul of tight offside decisions after Godin's miss – both Cavani and Suarez denied by the flag and subsequent VAR checks.

When Suarez missed a penalty forgot to save us using the same 2010 WC way. He is no more saving but leading to the park and go!!!

Life is just not fair! This is the wicked side of football! Peru was hammered 5 goals to nought in their last outing against Brazil, did not even manage a single shot on target against Uruguay, were lucky to have 3 Uruguay goals ruled out as offside, and have knocked out Uruguay in the Copa America! Life is just not fair. That you deserve to win in life doesn't mean you will not find yourself on the losing side.

I want to see big teams in the semi-finals of copa America but now Uruguay is out that means Chile will probably beat Peru and face Argentina in the final if Argentina win against Brazil and messi has chance to revenge Chile.💥

Uruguay were the superior team. Luck didn't favour them. I feel sad for Suarez, he had a bad day where his goal was disallowed due to offside and penalty got saved. On the other hand, congrats for qualifying into semi final. Best of luck to Uruguay for next time, and best of luck to Peru for the next match.

All 3 goals were correctly ruled out for offside. It's hard on uruguay but luck wasn't on their side today

They got an easy team, what do you expect?
Didn't Brazil also get an easy team with your thinking? Peru who beat Uruguay are the same team who got hammered by Brazil in their last game.
