Joe Cole has predicted when he believes Manchester United will next win the Premier League title under the management of Rúben Amorim, following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

United concluded their 2024/25 campaign at a sunny Old Trafford with a positive display, defeating Aston Villa 2-0.

Signs of promise from United against Villa

Despite finishing the season in 15th place in the Premier League, former Chelsea player Joe Cole pointed out two very encouraging signs that suggest United could improve next season.

The 43-year-old stated that he believed the match against Villa was United’s best home performance all season, and praised Rúben Amorim’s post-match speech to the fans.

“What I saw from United — firstly, that might have been the best I’ve seen them play at home in months,” Cole told TNT Sports.

“Secondly, I thought Amorim’s speech was absolutely spot-on, and I think United fans would have left the stadium with a good feeling.

“Looking ahead to next season, maybe bringing in a few players to lift the mood. I think that could be a positive start, but I still think there’s a long way to go.”

Cole went on to explain that he believes it will take another five seasons before Manchester United are capable of lifting the Premier League trophy again — meaning a title challenge may not be realistic until the 2029/30 season.

“It’s not quite like Liverpool during the lull between their two golden eras. I think United have fallen off much more sharply,” Cole added.

When asked how many years he thought it would take for United to become champions again, he said: “At least — and I’m being optimistic — at least five years before they’re back in title contention.

“And I don’t think I’m exaggerating. Considering where they are right now, that’s actually quite a fair assessment. They’re fourth or fifth from bottom in the Premier League — miles away from challenging.”

However, CEO Omar Ramos Berada hopes the title can return to Old Trafford two seasons sooner, with the club aiming to reclaim the Premier League trophy by the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
