Frank Lampard's side fought back from a goal down through Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic, but despite a Kepa penalty save were pegged back by Danny Wass' late fluke.
Match Reports
Daniel Wass scored a fortuitous and crucial late equalizer for Valencia to secure a 2-2 draw at home to Chelsea on Wednesday in a thrilling contest that left Champions League Group H wide open.
Frank Lampard's men had looked on course to leave Mestalla with the victory that would have clinched their spot in the knockout phase after Christian Pulisic's go-ahead strike was added to by a Kepa Arrizabalaga penalty save, but Wass' effort led to a share of the spoils.
The draw keeps the Blues in control of their own destiny ahead of their final game against Lille.

2' Great chance! Willian heads over from James' cross
GREAT CHANCE! It's a brilliant first-time cross into the box from James on the right and Willian pulls away from Costa at the far post to get his head to it. It's a good effort from the Brazilian but it sails over the crossbar.
19' Gomez misses golden chance!
WHAT A MISS! It's a quick break down the field by Valencia and Rodrigo times his run perfectly to stay onside. He squares his cross to Gomez at the far post and it looks like it's going to be a tap-in for him, but it goes through his legs.
30' Great save by Kepa! Gomez misses another chance!
GOOD CHANCE! Parejo plays a good, low cross into the box and he's trying to pick out Torres in the middle. He misses it though and it runs through to Gomez who takes a touch before firing his shot towards goal. Kepa makes himself big though and puts it out for a corner.
40' GOAL! Valencia 1-0 Chelsea (Soler)
VALENCIA LEAD! The cross into the box from Rodrigo drops perfectly into the middle and Soler makes a great run through the penalty area without being picked up and volleys his effort past Kepa, who does get a hand to it, and over the line. 1-0 Valencia!
41' GOAL! Valencia 1-1 Chelsea (Kovacic)
IT'S LEVEL! Valencia didn't even have their lead for a minute as Chelsea went straight on the attack from the restart. The home side don't clear their lines and Garay nods it straight to Kovacic, who turns before drilling his shot low into the bottom left corner from outside the box. 1-1!
45' Injured Abraham taken off on a stretcher
Abraham had to be carried off on a stretcher after a heavy fall during the Champions League clash with Valencia. As a cross came in from the right, the striker leapt in the air but fell heavily onto defender Ezequiel Garay.
50' GOAL! Valencia 1-2 Chelsea (Pulisic)
It takes a good two minutes but the goal stands! From the initial angles, Pulisic looks to be offside but the VAR 3D lines are out and it shows that, in fact, the American is onside and the goal is given.
64' Parejo misses pen! Great save from Kepa
PENALTY TO VALENCIA! It was a very clumsy challenge as both Jorginho and Gaya ran to get on the end of Soler's throughball. The referee immediately pointed to the spot and after a VAR check, the decision on the field stands.
IT'S SAVED! Parejo steps up to take the spot-kick and it's a confident run up from the captain. His shot is going to the left but he can't beat Kepa. Still 2-1 Chelsea!
CF Valencia are awarded a penalty at Mestalla. Dani Parejo takes the kick ... but misses!
82' GOAL! Valencia 2-2 Chelsea (Wass)
IT'S A WONDERFUL GOAL! It's come out of nowhere for Valencia as Wass tries to whip a cross back into the box, but it ends up in the back of the net instead. Kepa is well beaten as the ball sails over him, off the far post and over the line. 2-2!

Lampard made a tactical error today. I think he needs more experience himself. why defending against Valencia when you needed a win?

I respect Frank. But tonight his tactical switch are way off. He shouldn't sub off Jorginho for Emerson n go for 5 defenders because its too early. And also, those crosses from James, were excellent and deadly but there are no one to finish it๐ข. Please let Giroud play when James plays. Giroud could probably score when James hit crosses like that. FRUSTRATED ๐ญ

today we played rubbish, I don't know may be the whole energy was used under Man city game. The players had no fighting spirit to win the game. How do you try to defend a goal when you know that your defence is poor. Lampard needs to work on the defense otherwise we are going no where. Valencia would have won the game

Worst defending from any team i have ever seen . Keeper making mistake defender making mistake and every one is making mistake . Easy for them to cut through , we need a ball playing defender( tomori should be there ) .If it was any other team it would be 6-2. You have 2 left backs u playing aspi on left wing which completely create confusion . James is too young . Batshuayi is not good enough for chelsea ( sell and buy new replacement ) . Frankly speaking if we qualify we may be team with worst defence And We should need some to challenge Kepa to 1st team other wise his performance will fall . We need to buy him spectacles for long shots . Game was very good but as a Chelsea fan it is hurting
