Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has opened up on the reasoning behind his transfer from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021.
The four-time Champions League winner joined the Reds back in August 2021 and has been an integral part of Erik ten Hag's squad so far this season.
Prior to suffering his recent ankle injury, our no.19 spoke to the BT Sport cameras at Carrington for a special episode of their 'What I Wore' series.
When talking through the standout shirts from his illustrious career so far, the centre-back opens up about the reasoning behind his move to United.
“It was a great moment,” said Rapha, when asked about his move to M16.
“It's a huge club with some of the best fans in the world and the history of the club is something special.
“Everything [about the club], the spirit, the philosophy, the passion around the club, it is something very special and different.”
Rapha has impressed throughout his 30 appearances under Ten Hag this season and contributed to our defence keeping 15 clean sheets in the Premier League.
Speaking further on the honour he feels whilst representing the Reds, the Frenchman explains how he feels when wearing our current home shirt.
“I like this one because it's a bit old school! I like the collar,” replied Rapha, when quizzed which of the United shirts he has worn was his favourite.
“When I wear it, I feel I have to give 100 per cent of myself and everything on the pitch. I can't give up and when I wear the shirt I feel that mentality.”

Varane chose the greatest English club. No one says Man Utd is bigger than Madrid but in England, it is bigger than any other club.
Including brighton?

He moved to where he will be appreciated and adored. At RM, he’s more of a squad player who could be replaced anytime. Also he knows that HM is probably overrated and he’s way better than him. He even retired from France to concentrate his football with the club that will love him. The same reason why Case joined MU, go to a club that you’ll get respect and support by the club and fans.
you will just open your mouth waaaàaa and start spitting rubbish 🤦♂️

Only the few months you've stayed, what you've done, your impacts and dedication. YOU ALREADY ARE A LEGEND AT THE CLUB.
less than two years, now a legend. Stop deceiving yourself, nothing like Real Madrid or Barcelona for ex players.
