In LaLiga Matchday 8, Real Madrid hosted Villarreal. After Vinicius scored in the second half, VAR intervened to review the play, and the referee ultimately disallowed the goal and issued Vinicius a direct red card.

During the attack, Bellingham broke through on the left wing and delivered a cut-back pass, which Vinicius finished from close range. However, upon review, VAR determined that Vinicius had committed a foul by pulling William Saliba's hair during the play, resulting in the goal being disallowed and his direct dismissal.

Following the decision, Real Madrid still led 1-0 but were reduced to ten men.
