Wayne Rooney may be a footballing legend, but it seems his son Kai appears to be more of a basketball fan.

The two were spotted out at the CapitalOne Arena in Washington D.C. taking in the Washington Wizards' 102-88 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.

And Kai was decked out in Washington Wizards gear, with the number two of Wizards point guard John Wall on the front.

Wayne Rooney was a little more subtly dressed, with jeans and a dark top, but the pair weren't able to keep a low profile after being shown on the huge arena screens.

The D.C. United player gave a little wave and a thumbs up to the camera as the crowd cheered and applauded his presence.

Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal revealed to WizardsXTRA that Wayne and Kai had entered their dressing room after the game, and that Kai had been dribbling the ball around.

'He's the GOAT, for sure,' said Beal, referring to Rooney as the Greatest Of All Time. 'His passion and energy is unmatched.'

Wayne Rooney certainly had an excellent season with DC United. Since his arrival he lifted the team from bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference to serious play-off contenders.

They eventually lost to Columbus Crew in the Play-In round of the MLS, although the game ended in a closely fought draw. Rooney actually missed a penalty in the shootout.

Rooney's son Kai has certainly been seen as an outdoorsy kid before, so it won't be a surprise to see him follow in his father's sporting footsteps in some fashion.
