DC United are closing in on bringing in Lewis O'Brien from Premier League team Nottingham Forest on a loan deal.
The 24-year-old midfielder saw a deadline-day move to English tier 2 side Blackburn Rovers fail to materialize in January.
But Wayne Rooney's MLS franchise are the frontrunners to sign the central midfielder.
Other MLS teams have shown interest in O'Brien but DC may include a break clause where he can return to Forest in the summer to find another side.
Talks between the two clubs are ongoing as terms of the move are worked out.
