'We are great men' – Darmian hails mental strength of champions-elect Inter

Matteo Darmian described his Inter team-mates as "great men", as he saluted their mental strength to bounce back from last season's disappointments.

Inter are on the brink of claiming the Serie A title, though they missed the chance to move within a point of clinching the Scudetto following Sunday's 2-2 draw with Torino.

The Nerazzurri surrendered a 2-0 lead in Turin, having to settle for a point after conceding twice in the final 20 minutes.

Inter have not won a match after holding a two-goal lead in Serie A for the first time since April 2025 (2-2 draw with Parma.

Nevertheless, Cristian Chivu's side can secure top spot with victory at home to Parma next Sunday, though it will already be sealed if second-place Napoli are beaten by Como the previous day.

Inter agonisingly missed out on Serie A glory to Napoli by a single point, after losing top spot in the closing weeks. They also suffered Champions League final heartbreak, following a demoralising 5-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain.

And Darmian, who made his 300th appearance in Serie A, gave his team-mates credit for the way they have been able to dust themselves down and go again this term.

"We needed four points before today's game. We wanted to win, but we didn't manage it," he said. "We'll try to do it next week in front of our fans to win the Scudetto.

"Last season ended in the worst possible way, despite still being positive. It was not easy to start again, especially psychologically, but we were good, also thanks to the coach. We've done our best, and we are happy.

"This season, we've proved how strong this group is, also mentally. It was not easy after the previous campaign, but we are great men before anything else. I've been at Inter for six years, and it's normal to have ups and downs.

"We'll celebrate when it is mathematically confirmed, and then we'll have a Coppa Italia Final [against Lazio]."
