Ahead of December's Ballon d'Or gala, Real Madrid and Spain great Iker Casillas has questioned the consistency of football's awards criteria.
Iker Casillas has questioned football's individual awards, flagging up what he feels may be a lack of consistency in the process by which their winners are chosen.
After Virgil van Dijk was named 2018/19 UEFA Men's Player of the Year in August, Lionel Messi then scooped the 2019 FIFA Best Men's Player award in September - and, with 2019 Ballon d'Or still to be handed out, Casillas is bracing himself for all three prizes to go to different recipients.
Taking to his Twitter account on Friday, the World Cup-winning former Real Madrid and Spain captain wrote: "Van Dijk was the best player for UEFA. Messi for FIFA.
"Imagine if Cristiano [Ronaldo] (who fully deserves to) wins the BALLON D'OR. It'd leave me with the impression that the criteria for giving out awards in football aren't very consistent, wouldn't you say?"
The winner of the 2019 Ballon d'Or, whose 30-man shortlist was revealed in October, will be announced at a ceremony in Paris in December.

It's just like city winning EPL, Liverpool winning UCL, but Man Utd winning "best club in the world" award

The National Team Captains and Coaches who vote for the Balon D Or have very little acumen when it comes to voting for this kind of Individual award. individual awards like Best Player should be polled for a player not by the number of trophies or tournments he wins or scores, but should be looked into MVP content of every game played and the difference made to a team National or Club. Take for example, Portugual / Lithuania, if CR7 did not play , Portugual would still win and maybe by even more than what they scored. If CR7 was not with Juventes , they would still win the Italian league. it hardly would make a difference. Best player should not be Instagram or Facebook or TV revenue generation stars but rather skills and creating football revolution on the pitch that lasts a lifetime. Like Cruyff, Best , Maradonna. Last years winner will be forgotten 6 months on after this Balon D Or presentation. However Cruyff , Best , Maradona will be remembered as long as football exists.

That is why some persons don't understand the meaning of being the best in terms of individual relevance and excellence for the year. Messi statistics is still far above others when judging from the individual perspective. 1. Highest number of goals in laliga. 2 Highest number of goals in the champions league, 3. Highest number of free kick goals. 4. Highest number of man of the match. 5. Highest number of assist. 6. Highest number of accurate passes. 7. Best dribbling skills. Winning a trophy is a collective contribution of all players that is why the trophy is given to the club and medals are given to all the players. They had already been rewarded but this award is purely for the best performing player of the year on individual basis not by team glory. Modric won last year award because he was individually extraordinary so if you are a Ronaldo fan please don't worry, Ronaldo was a bit behind Messi if one wants to be sincere.

I would not mind if the 2019 Ballon d'Or were to be won by Messi or Ronaldo, the two have been exceptional in their careers for more than a decade playing at the top and producing results. The level of professionalism and consistency they have exhibited has been unmatched, doubting the consistency of the criteria used to arrive at a decision to award the prize to any of the two is utter nonsense and uncalled for. No system is 100% full proof but casting innuendos about the criteria before even the commencement of voting can be the beginning of indirect rigging to prepare the minds of unsuspecting football fraternity not to accept the result should the prize be won by Ronaldo or Messi.

Actually Ronaldo, Messi or Van Dijk winning Balon d'Or wouldn't be surprising ....these three fought hard enough..... if Ronaldo wins all to think is that he deserves it.....he's won Serie A, Nations League, Broke Intl Records..... so i think there'll no surprise if CR7 wins the Balon d'Or this year

Hopefully, CR7 win this year title and thereafter restrict to a maximum of 3 individually. Besides football achievement, player must contribute their time and services to spread goodwill to other minority country.

But nothing is consistent. It's sometimes very difficult to agree on who's the best but this is more because human judgement is not free of subjectivity of sentiment and the like. But for me I don't believe it'd be possible that each time a player wins the first award then he should win the remaining awards. The award giving bodies are different and could have slightly different criteria and objectives. The most important thing is to ensure that the template and process are credible enough besides clarity of criteria. While I agree that the awards given by the world's football governing body should supercede the other awards, it's not to belittle the significance of those awards and their organisers-they're all important and well intended.

So people are now calling it individual award after calling it club and country success last year CR7 was better than Modric for Madrid in terms of goals and assists, he was almosy 80% the man of his country. Perisic, Rakitic, Mandzukic played well like Modric for their country. CR7 did well in the World cup, I can say better than Modric. They still say Modric is better with team success. Now this year CR7 is Juve highest goalscorer as they won serie A, scored 100% of their Knockout stage goals Won the best player award in Serie A, Scored hat trick to send Portugal to the Nations league final and won it. CR7, Messi, VVD, Mane and Bernardo Silva in my opinion deserve the award.

What criteria does we look upon awarding a person a Ballon Dior award: Outstanding individual performance in the calendar year. Let's compare the stats from a. Goals b. Assists If we were looking for number of titles that a particular players have well the top 3 of the podium would have people like Gabriel Jesus (won EPL, FA, Carabao, Community Shield, and Copa America) Riyard Mahrez (Won the same titles like Jesus but he had Lifted Africon title) Bernardo Silva (Likewise but he lifted Uefa Nations League Title and become MVP of the competition) Alison Becker (Won Uefa champions league, And Copa America)

However I'll congratulate anyone who would win this Glorious award. To me I believe that the results given by Organizers are valid and true.
