Which teams have chance to fill the 2 remaining spots in the 2024 Copa America?

CONMEBOL has confirmed the four pots for the Copa América draw with two teams still required to complete the tournament group stage.

The United States, as an invited guest, are playing host to the 2024 Copa América and have already been confirmed in Pot 1 of the draw which will be held on Thursday in Miami. On Friday we learned from the tournament’s federation CONMEBOL how the four pots will be formed and these will used to determine the groups for next summer’s tournament.

Top seeds in Copa América Pot 1

As the current holders of the Copa América title, Argentina will head Group A, while Group B will be spearheaded by the CONCACAF Gold Cup champions, Mexico. The United States, positioned at 14th in the latest FIFA rankings, secures a seeded spot in Group C, courtesy of CONMEBOL’s recognition of them as the top team in CONCACAF.

Group D will be under the leadership of Brazil, acknowledged as the premier team in CONMEBOL based on the FIFA world rankings.

With 14 of the 16 nations already confirmed the final two will be decided in a playoff in March. Those playoffs are:

Argentina (A1), Mexico (B1), United States (C1), Brazil (D1)

Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru

Chile, Panama, Venezuela, Paraguay

Jamaica, Bolivia, CONCACAF 5 (Trinidad and Tobago or Canada) and CONCACAF 6 (Honduras or Costa Rica).

While the USMNT and Mexico know that they will will avoid group-stage clashes with top sides Argentina and Brazil, the two teams that complete the 16 could be with any of those four. And they’ll know in which group they lie before the playoff in March 2024.
