On July 22nd, Beijing time (CEST), the White House, the official residence of the US President, issued a statement expressing appreciation for the hat worn by Spanish football star Ferran Torres during the championship celebration.
Shortly before, the White House reposted a photo of the Spanish team celebrating their championship in the streets of Madrid. In the photo, Ferran Torres was wearing a very eye-catching hat, emblazoned with a slightly tweaked well-known slogan. The Spanish team's hero took the opportunity of the FIFA World Cup being held in the United States to wear a hat that read "Make Spain Great Again."
The hat's inspiration clearly came from the "Make America Great Again" baseball cap often worn by US President Trump. It is reported that US President Trump greatly appreciated this "tribute."
