With 2026 World Cup intercontinental play-offs near, Nigeria captain Wilfred Ndidi speaks out on FIFA’s silence over DR Congo player eligibility complaint.
Frustrated but showing leadership, the Leicester midfielder is demanding that the world governing body finally provide a clear answer so that players can plan ahead, stressing that the current uncertainty is weighing heavily on his team’s mental preparation.
When asked about the interminable wait, Wilfred Ndidi said: “To be honest, I don’t really focus on things I can’t control. We’re just focusing on our football and preparing in the best way we can. Of course, everyone wants clarity, but we trust the Nigerian Football Federation and the authorities to handle everything properly. As players, our job is to stay ready, stay united, and keep working hard. Nigerian fans always expect the best from us, and we respect that. Whatever the outcome, we will continue to give our all for the country and make Nigeria proud.”
Expected since February 17, FIFA’s verdict has still not been announced on this dispute, which arose after the DRC qualified for the intercontinental playoffs for the 2026 World Cup.
