Wojciech Szczesny has given an update on his future at Barcelona, hinting that his wife may ultimately decide whether he stays at the Nou Camp next season.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper has played a key role for Hansi Flick's side this campaign, deputising superbly in the absence of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has been out for most of the season with a long-term knee injury.

Despite Ter Stegen having now returned, Szczesny was selected to start Barcelona's crucial El Clasico victory over Real Madrid on Sunday, with the 4-3 win taking the Catalans seven points clear at the top of LaLiga with three games to play.

After the thrilling derby, the Polish goalkeeper has confirmed that he is still weighing up whether to stay at Barcelona, revealing that the club offered him a two-year contract extension ahead of the summer transfer window.

'I don't know. I don't hide the fact that I received an offer of a two-year extension, but I have to decide with my family what's best for us,' he told Canal Plus.

'I think I owe it to my family, to my wife, to make these decisions together, so I just haven't made a decision yet.'

Szczesny went on to reveal that his Ukrainian pop star wife Marina Luczenko is behind most of the decisions he makes in his life, insisting he is 'not ashamed' of it.

While clarifying that he usually decides matters involving his football career, the shot-stopper admitted that he is happy for Luczenko to have a major say on his future at Barcelona on this occasion.

'Most of the decisions regarding my home are made by my wife, and I’m not ashamed of that at all,' he urged.

'The football-related ones are mostly made by me, but this is such an unusual case, as we were determined to come here for a year to try to achieve our dreams, and then go back to playing golf.

'I’ll decide in the coming weeks. There are also the logistical aspects of school, moving, and so on.

'For now, I’m enjoying what’s happened and not thinking about whether I’m going to stay here or not.'

Szczesny and Luczenko tied the knot back in 2016, having met three years earlier while was at Arsenal.
