Wrexham star doesn't hide how he feels about Vardy as huge move 'on the cards'

Wrexham have been linked with a shock move for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, and one of their stars has already explained his thoughts on the former England international

A Wrexham star has already made his feelings on Jamie Vardy abundantly clear following reports linking the Leicester City striker with a sensational move to the Hollywood-owned club. The former England international is entering the final months of his contract at the King Power Stadium, leading to speculation over his future.

Wrexham and Leicester could be playing in the same division next season, with the Red Dragons hoping to secure automatic promotion from League One and the Foxes appearing nailed on to be relegated from the Premier League. With the Championship in their sights, claims are mounting that the Welsh side's co-owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, could be prepared to splash the cash to secure Vardy's signature.

The 38-year-old would be welcomed by at least one familiar face if he did make the switch to the Racecourse Ground, with ex-Leicester midfielder Matty James an ever-present fixture in Phil Parkinson's starting XI. Vardy signed for the Foxes from Fleetwood Town three days after James joined from Manchester United in May 2012.

James previously spoke about his admiration for his former team-mate in March 2024 while preparing to face Leicester with Bristol City. Despite Vardy's advancing years, he also backed him to continue playing longer after praising his fitness levels.

"Vards is such a good lad and he's an unbelievable player in terms of where he's gone from the day he signed at Leicester," James told BristolLive. "He fitted in straight away - the way he was as a person, as a player, and he's such a giving guy. He would do anything for anybody.

"The relationship a lot of lads had with him was probably why he's still at the football club, because of the loyalty he's shown. When you do get a little bit older you do kind of get put into that box in terms of the more senior, experienced player.

"For everybody to see what Vards is doing, still playing and still as sharp as he is - he's still got the speed at 37. For me, it's great because hopefully there's still a little bit of room for the players who are entering the last few years of their career that people still know your value. It's great he's still playing and I'm sure he'll be playing for a little bit longer."

James' comments regarding his own longevity proved accurate. Despite being released by Bristol City last summer, he was picked up by Wrexham as a free agent in October. The 33-year-old has since made 29 appearances for the Red Dragons, playing an important role in their push for promotion to the Championship.

After initially joining on a short-term deal, his performances were rewarded in December with a new long-term contract, keeping him at Wrexham until at least the end of the 2025-26 season. "It's really good to be settled and I'm looking forward to playing as many games as I can and help try to take the club to the next level," James said at the time.

Meanwhile, one of the club's directors has previously addressed rumours linking Vardy with a move to North Wales directly. When asked in May 2024 if Wrexham could make a bid to sign the Premier League winner, Humphrey Ker did not rule the possibility out.

"There's nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn't be a great Wrexham player," Ker told SPORTbible. "It's not a name I've had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn't put us off."

Wrexham are currently second in League One, just one point ahead of rivals Wycombe Wanderers, as they look to seal their third consecutive promotion. Parkinson's side next host relegation-threatened Bristol Rovers on Good Friday.
