Xabi Alonso says Arda Güler is a mix of Mesut Özil and Guti

These were his thoughts from the Valdebebas press room.

“It’s a classic of European football, one of those select rivals that elevate this competition. I remember watching many Madrid–Juve games on TV. We’ll need the crowd – we know fans come to the Bernabéu eager for big nights, and this is one of them. We have to give them something to feed off.”

“I’ve already spoken about this in other press conferences... The club is defending its legitimate interests. We’ll see what happens.”

From collecting yellow cards to showing restraint. “He’s so good, so important. Decisive. I’m very happy to see him enjoying himself. We talked the other morning about the impact he can have. We need him focused on what he does best for what’s ahead.”

“Not just because of where he’s from, but because of his quality. He’s a mix between Özil and Guti, since Guti could both create and deliver the final pass. The more we find Arda in good positions, the better we play. We have to keep pushing him to improve, but I’m happy.”

“We’re not at that point. Competition up front is intense and everyone has to be ready for their moment – Gonzalo, Brahim... elite football demands a lot.”

“I hope not. With this squad, we’ll go all the way. We’re on an upward curve, thinking about how to compete consistently. It’s a complete, modern, dynamic squad with potential to grow. My role is to guide them and help them improve. In the medium to long term, that evolution will show.”

“I saw that game – Como played very well against them. But we’re focused on our own work. Nico made a very smart move last season, choosing the right place and coach. His future? It’s not the time to discuss it.”

“Until three weeks ago they were in good shape – that win over Inter proved it. We’re very alert. An Italian team in difficulty can be twice as dangerous. We still remember last year’s Milan game at the Bernabéu. Juve have quality players. Yildiz is one – his progression is fantastic; I know him from Bayern’s youth ranks.”

“Trent and Carvajal trained partially. We’ll do a light session tomorrow morning... but I don’t think they’ll make it.”

“Tibu isn’t just the best in the world under the posts – he also understands the game deeply. He’s curious about it. In the future, I can see him close to the pitch. He loves understanding football.”

“That’s a very hard question. Iker is Iker. I can’t compare – we went through a lot together.”

“He’s only been fully fit for about three weeks. His qualities – his energy and ability to break lines – are unique. We just have to use him well, fit him into the collective idea.”

“The environment here is different from Argentina. He’s 18, and at this point we’re happy with how he’s performing. We’re very pleased he’s with us.”
