Xavi Simons: I've overcome my serious injury; hope to lead Tottenham to a championship

Speaking to the Tottenham Hotspur official channel, Xavi Simons said he is "happy and in a good place" after overcoming a serious injury.

The 23-year-old suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Wolves last April and underwent surgery. He revealed that he hit rock bottom in the days following the operation.

The injury was severe and the recovery was long. Xavi has now emerged from the toughest period and, with the support of his family, teammates, and the club, is focused on returning stronger than before.

“The first four days were the worst four days of my life,” the number seven said as he returned to Spain for a special program called ‘Simons: Coming Home’. “I couldn’t sleep, I didn’t eat for a week.

“I was in pain, even vomiting, dizzy, all kinds of reactions. It was a kind of pain I wouldn't wish on anyone.

“I don't know how other players feel, but for me, it felt like my whole body was asking: 'What happened?'

“That’s how it was. I’m happy now, and in a good place. I’m with my family, and we’ve worked hard together. They’ve been with me for these 10 weeks. By the second week, everything started to get much better.

“Fortunately, the club has always been behind me, looking at my physical condition, as if to say: ‘Okay, we can test some things, try different ways of recovery.’”

After returning to the Tottenham Hotspur training ground last week and intensifying his rehabilitation, the Dutch international said his motivation for daily training is to become better than before. He is already looking forward to making his mark in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt when he returns.

“Every time I’m in the gym, I only have one thought in my head: I have to be stronger, I have to be better,” he continued.

“Having that motivation every day gives me a lot of satisfaction, because it keeps giving me strength.

“My goal is to bring the club back to where it belongs, to win trophies. That is my main goal, and it will not change. That is the most important thing. We will definitely see a better Tottenham Hotspur, and we will definitely see a better Xavi Simons.”
