Xavi Simons has joined RB Leipzig on a year-long loan - just days after PSG re-signed him from PSV.

The attacking midfielder's addition will go some way to replacing the firepower lost by the sales of Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai.

He scored 22 goals in 48 games for PSV last season, prompting PSG to activate the £5million buy-back clause they inserted into the deal to sell him to the Dutch club in June 2022.

Simons spent the bulk of his youth career with Barcelona before joining PSG in 2019.

Since then, the 22-year-old has become a senior international with the Netherlands and won multiple trophies, including Ligue 1 and the KNVB Cup.

Mail Sport reported on Sunday that PSG were considering sending him out on loan.

His performances have attracted interest from the Premier League, with Arsenal's Mikel Arteta and Newcastle's Eddie Howe both said to have monitored Simons, but it is in the Bundesliga that he will test himself for the coming campaign.

He should get more playing time in a side of Leipzig's level as opposed to PSG, who are currently hanging on to Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
