The former Barcelona midfielder has not managed since 2024 but is keen on a return to the dugout
Xavi is one of the names linked with taking over at Chelsea following Liam Rosenior's sacking on Wednesday. And the Barcelona icon has already admitted that he would love the chance to manage in the Premier League.
Rosenior was appointed Blues manager on January 6 on a six-year deal. However, after a run of five consecutive league defeats without scoring and the club's worst period without wins and goals since 1912, the former defender was shown the door.
Now, the search for a new manager at Stamford Bridge is on and Xavi could be that option. The ex-Spain international, who won La Liga with Barcelona both as player and manager, revealed in 2025 that he wants another job on the touchline.
When asked about a return to management, Xavi told The Athletic: "Of course? Where, I don’t know. There’s no hurry for me, but I’d like a good project.
"Like, ‘You have four years to work and make a project’. I’d love to work in the Premier League because I love the passion there. In Spain, it’s too much about the result."
The 46-year-old pointed out Mikel Arteta's time at Arsenal as an example of a long-term project. The Gunners boss has spent over six years in north London overseeing proceedings and is still in contention for the Premier League and Champions League this season.
Referencing Arteta's building success at Arsenal, Xavi added: "Arteta with Arsenal – it’s his sixth year with Arsenal and there were seasons when it was difficult, but his club trusted the process and continued. He’s doing well. That doesn’t happen in Spain."
Chelsea have had four managers since 2023 and have slipped to eighth in the Premier League table. Following a dismal 3-0 loss to Brighton on Tuesday, the club announced Rosenior's departure.
In a statement, Chelsea said: "Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.
"This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly, however, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future."
Calum McFarlane will take interim charge of the Blues for their FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United.
The club state they want to "strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup," and will "undertake a process of self-reflection" when searching for their next manager.
Other names linked with a move to Stamford Bridge include former Blue Cesc Fabregas, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva.

Chelsea and man utd are the 2 epl clubs you should avoid, you won't last long if you delivered poor results. The boards and their fans just can't handle long term projects, all they want is quick success.
