'You are talking about hypotheticals' - Mourinho denies Real Madrid link

Real Madrid's Champions League elimination has made it abundantly clear that the team will likely be coached by a different individual by the start of the 2019/20 season, yet Jose Mourinho has moved to confirm that he hasn't yet been contacted by the Spanish giants.

The Portuguese coach is currently unemployed following his time in charge at Manchester United, and links have grown to the Real Madrid coaching role following the Ajax defeat.

"There is nothing, there hasn't been even the slightest contact," Mourinho explained in an interview with Jugones de LaSexta.

"You are talking about hypotheticals [questions on a Real Madrid return. I'm proud [to be mentioned], but Real Madrid already have a coach."

Ajax's victory at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu came as a surprise to many, not least the former Porto coach.

"It was surprising, but I see a lot of respect for what the team has achieved before," Mourinho intimated.

"You can't win four, five or even six Champions Leagues in a row.

"You should ask other clubs if they want to win three Champions Leagues in a row and then go out in the second round."

When pushed on whether or not he is still in touch with anyone in power at Valdebebas, Mourinho once again looked to shut down any possible speculation.

"No, I haven't, but rumours in football are normal," Mourinho confirmed. "When the team has won, I've been happy with them.

"I don't think any team will ever again do what this group has done."
