The former Real Madrid coach was anxious not to return to the game until the 2019/20 season and must now weigh up the proposal from the Old Trafford club.
Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is contemplating a firm offer from Manchester United to replace Jose Mourinho on the Old Teafford bench after the coach from Setubal was relieved of his duties on Tuesday.
The French coach is still deliberating over the proposal and those close to the former player admit that Zidane's intention was to take over at a Premier League side though his intention was to return to the game for the 2019-20 season and not immediately as United's CEO Ed Woodward is requesting.
Zinedine Zidane left Madrid on May 31 after securing three back-to-back Champions League titles with the Santiago Bernabeu outfit and has two great ambitions as a coach: manage Juventus and at some point the French national team a Francia.
Both these roles are complicated in the short term given the respectiue success currently being enjoyed by both incumbents, Max Allegri with the Serie A side and Didier Deschamps with "Les Bleus".
Despite former United "super-sub" Ole Gunnar Solskjæ being cited as a temporary replacement, Zidane remains the favourite with leading bookmakers to substitute Mourinho as long term replacement on the Old Trafford bench.

Man U just lacks good and selfless players. Of all the players, only the likes of Juan Mata and goal stopper David De Gea play with all their hearts, minds, might and the right level of enthusiasm. Rashford and Lingard do try but they still have to up their level of maturity and finishing in front of goal. Yes, Mourhino's sometimes abrasive human relations and tactical skills may partly be blamed for the crisis, but the greater blame lies with the sub-par performance and egoistical and sabotaging disposition of many of the players, some of whom are overrated and overpaid but very much underperforming. If no new and competitive players are recruited soon, even after the departure of Mourhino, Man U will probably stay at the bottom of the top league teams.
