The French publication, RMC, claim Zidane is the favourite to take over from Mourinho at Old Trafford should the board decide to move on.
José Mourinho on the brink at Manchester United after the joint worst start to a season in their history. After their defeat to West Ham in the Premier League at the weekend, which comes after a draw with Wolves at home and a loss to Derby in the EFL, Mourinho's stint at Old Trafford looks like it could go the same way as his Chelsea stay when he was sacked in December 2015 in the third year of his reign.
Beyond what is happening on the field, the atmosphere in the dressing room is said to be toxic too as a row with Paul Pogba continues to fester with other players reportedly being fed up too. A report in England suggests Alexis Sanchez regrets his decision to move to United after being left out of the squad entirely for the trip to London at the weekend. Rio Ferdinand, the former Manchester United defender, says the club have "big decisions" to make in the coming weeks.
RMC Sport report on Monday that "The Portuguese has lost control" and that United are considering their options. The club are not keen on showing him the exit just yet with no clear candidate to replace him as well as being reluctant to sign a short term replacement. It could happen though.
Zinedine Zidane is said to be the front-runner for the job and he has reportedly lined up Patrice Evra as a member of his coaching staff should it come to it. He is seen as the favourite ahead of others managers like Antonio Conte and Laurent Blanc.
Spotted at a game his son was playing at the start of September, Zidane said "I'll be back coaching soon." He is also said to be learning English with an eye on the top job at Old Trafford also.

If Zidane mistakenly takes over this UTD job, he will so fail that he will regret been a coach. he's no better than Mourinho in any way. this is no 2 horse race

No other will succeed Mou and still get my blessing other than Zidane. I may not be a United fan but the presence of Mou surely brought United fans like myself and I will follow Mou anywhere he goes. I give support to Zidane if it comes to that and I am sure he will bring new ideas and way of playing that will please fans and with the support of the board in providing him the necessary tools in players and conducive working environment Zidane will succeed. It will be bliss to see Patrice Evra in that Zidane dugout.

That's equivalent to 100% sure bet , meanwhile Utd board have denied making any contact with Zizou. But we all know that even JM coming to ManU started exactly like this while Van gal was still our coach albeit being under pressure too, possibly we will be seeing the repeat of similar scenario sooner or later, because our darling Utd need to come out of this mess we found ourselves into. Vidic and Rio Ferdinand should be included on that list of back room staff , Utd blood is flowing in their veins even till tomorrow. Manchester will still be Red again.
