Legends of French football Zinédine Zidane and Basile Boli have publicly thrown their support behind Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan.
Speaking from the paddock at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, Zidane – a Marseille native and longtime ambassador for Alpine's F1 team – told Canal+ that he'll be rooting for the French representatives at Munich.
"I'm going to watch the final, of course. Even me, who's from Marseille… the French team needs to win," said the 1998 Ballon d'Or winner with a smile.
PSG are seeking to become only the second French club to lift the Champions League, 32 years after Zidane's hometown side Olympique de Marseille beat AC Milan in Munich.
If Zidane's words left a slight sense of club loyalty still lingering, 1993 final goalscorer Basile Boli was unequivocal in his support for the Parisians. Appearing on France Info programme Mission Info, the former OM defender insisted.
"Yes, my heart is Blue and White, absolutely. But I'm behind PSG, because representing France is something important to me."
