Ex-Arsenal midfielder Rosicky admitted to hospital with 'heart-related issues'

Former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky is expected to make a full recovery after he was admitted to intensive care with heart-related issues.

Rosicky, who has been Sparta Prague’s sporting director since December 2018, was taken to hospital last Tuesday.

In a statement the club said the 44-year-old was released into home care last week after doctors determined he did not require surgery.

They did not disclose any further information about his condition.

"This situation has shown me that I need to take better care of myself. Poor lifestyle habits, lack of physical activity, and family predispositions unfortunately brought me here," Rosicky said.

"The good news is that I'm expected to make a full recovery, though I'm currently unable to carry out the demanding responsibilities of a sporting director. I'll remain in touch with my colleagues as we've always operated as a team."

Sparta Prague confirmed the club's sporting manager Tomas Sivok has been appointed interim sporting director, although Rosicky will "continue to support us in a consultative role."

Rosicky made 246 appearances for Arsenal between 2006 and 2016 and helped the club win the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015.

He also starred for his native Czech Republic, and helped guide them to the semi-finals of Euro 2004.
