"Cristiano found out that Serie A is not LaLiga"

The Italian press dedicated a lot of print to the Potuguese's debut in Serie A, noting that he has yet to fully adapt to his team or Calcio after a goalless performance.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s debut in Serie A was broadcast in more than 150 countries worldwide and generated a huge amount of press coverage in Italy.

La Gazzetta dello Sport

“A goalless debut for Ronaldo and Bernardeschi decisive in the 93rd minute,” was the headline in La Gazzetta, which added: “Cristiano, welcome to Italy. Enthusiastic fans, games that are never simple, with refereeing decisions that are controversial and send shivers down the spine.” Despite Ronaldo not playing a major role in Juve’s victory, the daily described the Portuguese as a “superior player.”

La Repubblica

The non-sports specific daily gave Ronaldo a 6.5 out of 10 and an analysis of his performance: “Played well starting out on the left and drifting towards the middle. Similar to what Dybala does, but on the other wing. Juventus will play with a 4-2-4 because Douglas Costa and Cuadrado are further forward in attack. Ronaldo played well but Bernardeschi was decisive.”

Corriere dello Sport

Corriere made no reference to Ronaldo in its headline (Bernardeschi settles it in the 93rd minute) but noted that “Until that point the game had been dominated by the figure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The big star of the afternoon in Verona.”

Il Messaggero

The Rome-based daily didn’t lavish praise on Ronaldo or Juventus: “It would be a mistake to think that Cristiano is enough to ensure victory, as Allegri said before the game. And so it was proved.” Il Messaggero did single Ronaldo out as “Juve’s most dangerous player” and noted that his positional change from the centre to the left was a good tactical move.

La Stampa

The Turin-based daily centred on the fact that Juventus have not conceded twice on the opening weekend of Serie A since 1998. “But that is the least of it for a Juve side that has yet to find the necessary balance with Ronaldo on the pitch. The Portuguese did everything he could to leave his mark, but he quickly discovered that Serie A is not the same as LaLiga.”
