According to talkSPORT sources, Manchester United plan to offer Kobbie Mainoo a new long-term contract, with his weekly salary set to rise fourfold from its current level. As the player has re-established his core role in the first team, the club hopes to finalize the extension quickly to secure his future.
Mainoo has had a rollercoaster season this season. Under former head coach Amorin, he was once frozen out of the starting lineup, but quickly returned to the first-team setup after interim manager Carrick took charge. Under Carrick, Mainoo started all three matches and delivered consistent performances. He played a key role in wins over Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham, gradually becoming an important part of the team's midfield.
Currently, Mainoo earns around £25,000 a week at Old Trafford. But talkSPORT understands United are ready to offer him a new deal with a six-figure weekly salary, which would quadruple his current earnings.
Before last Christmas, Mainoo was close to leaving the club. Before Amorin's sacking this season, he failed to get a single start in United's 20 Premier League games. In December last year, during United's 4-4 draw with Bournemouth, Mainoo's brother was photographed at Old Trafford wearing a T-shirt with "Free Kobbie Mainoo" printed on it, revealing the player's discontent. Due to limited game time, Mainoo was confused about his situation and linked with several clubs, including Serie A side Napoli. At the time, United were believed to be open to a January loan move to help his development, but never considered a permanent transfer.
Having re-established himself under Carrick, all departure talks have been put on hold. Mainoo played every minute of Carrick's games and quickly regained his best form. United have now started negotiations with the player's representatives over new contract terms. Mainoo is still on the contract he signed at 17, which came into effect in 2023, making him one of the lowest-paid players in the squad. The deal includes clauses tied to appearances and performances, but these were hard to meet during Amorin's tenure.
His current contract has one year remaining, plus an option to extend by another 12 months. Nevertheless, United are willing to renegotiate early to offer a contract that reflects his current first-team status. The club knows that leaving the extension unresolved for too long could pose potential risks, and the outside world is closely watching his next move. With Casemiro expected to depart this summer and Bruno Fernandes' future uncertain, United have internally identified Mainoo as one of the key players in their midfield plans for the coming years.

In this case, he meant “a hundred thousand” could be 200, 300 or higher.

The one missing that amorim did was not giving him the importance that he needs…. Mainu is a generational talent if he reaches his potential…..

Amorim is a destroyer, a spoiler, not a builder. He is arrogant in his ignorance. He is erratic in his inexperience. Pompous in his emptiness. Boastful in his bubbles.
