Manchester United have two players with a flawless penalty record

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been left with a dilemma following Manchester United's recent penalty failings.

Paul Pogba saw his spotkick saved against Wolves in the second match of the new Premier League season, while Marcus Rashford hit the post during the weekend defeat to Crystal Palace.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown his faith in Pogba and Rashford by insisting they will be the club's two designated penalty takers for the upcoming season, but the stats show that another duo might be a safer bet.

That is because United actually have two players in their first-team squad who have never missed a penalty in their career so far.

Andreas Pereira has netted four in regular time and another in a penalty shootout win, taking his tally to five out of five, according to stats from transfermarkt.

The four goals in normal time all came in his youth career, however Pereira was the only United player to find the net when they crashed out of the League Cup against Middlesbrough four years ago.

Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young all missed, while Pereira netted his in a 3-1 shootout defeat.

The only other player at the club with a flawless record is Daniel James. The summer signing netted his first penalty while playing in the Premier League 2 for Swansea, and also netted the winner as United defeated AC Milan in their final pre-season fixture earlier this year. Two from two might not be mind blowing, but it is certainly impressive.

If United get a penalty against Southampton this weekend then the young duo both have a fair argument to suggest they should take it.
