According to Mundo Deportivo, Álvarez wants to leave Atlético Madrid, and the club is once again facing a situation where a high-profile player seeks to depart.
With the Álvarez situation, Atlético Madrid faces another case of a talented and highly talked-about player wanting to leave the red-and-white team. This is not the first time it has happened. Other top-level forwards have previously pushed for their departure even while still belonging to a team competing for major titles.
For various reasons, especially sporting ambition, some of the best attackers in Atlético Madrid's history have requested a change of scenery from the club's management.
Here are some examples:
Hugo Sánchez transferred to Real Madrid in 1985
Fernando Torres transferred to Liverpool in 2007
Diego Forlán transferred to Inter Milan in 2011
Sergio Agüero transferred to Manchester City in 2011
Radamel Falcao transferred to Monaco in 2013
Diego Costa transferred to Chelsea in 2014 and later joined Atlético Mineiro in 2021
Antoine Griezmann transferred to Barcelona in 2019
