Real Madrid face city rivals Atlético in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Jude Bellingham will be a key absentee for Real Madrid as the Englishman is ruled out of the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Atlético due to suspension.

The former Dortmund central player received his third yellow card of the tournament against Man City in the playoff round which rules him out of Tuesday’s Madrid derby and is absence is a bitter blow for Ancelotti’s side.

However, during the Santiago Bernabeu clash five other Real Madrid players will need to be on their best behavior with another yellow card to any of the quintet would see them sidelined for the return leg at the Metropolitano, a week on Wednesday.

Rüdiger, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Modric and Endrick will all be watching their step at the Bernabéu with the threat of suspension also hanging over Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has also seen two yellows (in the games against Stuttgart and Brest).

How are yellow cards served in the Champions League?

UEFA regulations which apply to the Champions League, Europa League and the Conference League see a one-match ban imposed on players who accrue three yellow cards during the competition. Lucas Vázquez (against Salzburg) and Vinicius (against Brest) have already served a one-match ban for this reason.

Madrid, the second most booked UCL team

Real Madrid are the team with the second most yellow cards so far in this Champions League. Los Blancos players have received 25 yellow cards in 10 games. Bologna, eliminated in the league phase, received 28 yellow cards in 8 games.
