“I think that’s very important” – Barcelona star delighted with Flick confidence

Eric Garcia had lacked prominence at Barcelona up until earlier this year, but he is now a very important player for Hansi Flick – and that is amplified by the fact that he will soon sign a new contract at the Spotify Camp Nou.

And ahead of Barcelona’s trip to Real Oviedo on Thursday, Eric spoke to the club’s official media channels (via Marca). He took the opportunity to reflect on Barcelona’s near-perfect start to the 2025-26 season.

“We drew at Rayo, which is a difficult ground. Not everyone wins there, but, apart from that, I think we are very happy. In La Liga we are at the top, in the Champions League we won at a ground that is very difficult… We are in a good moment.”

On the Champions League itself, Eric is excited at the possibility of Barcelona ending their 11-year drought in the competition.

“When you’re at Barcelona, you have to win as many titles as possible. Last year we came close. Hopefully we can repeat the season we had and, if we win the Champions League, it would be even better.”

Eric was also asked about Hansi Flick, as well as his use of him as a right-back and centre-back during the early weeks of the season.

“He has made me play in many positions and has given me a lot of confidence. I think that’s very important for a player. It’s true that sometimes we take risks, but it’s the way we play. Offensively, I think we have a style of play that is very flashy and cheerful.”

“I’ve always played as a centre-back since I was little. I’m also very comfortable at right-back, but I have to try to help wherever the coach asks me. It depends on the game, if I play as a starter or as a substitute. I know that I can get into more positions. I try to help the team as much as possible.”

He also gave his reaction to former teammate Ousmane Dembele winning the 2025 Ballon d’Or ahead of Lamine Yamal.

“For me, the best player in the world is Lamine Yamal. He’s showing that he’s incredibly talented every time he plays. But I think Dembele had a very good season.”
