6 strikers Liverpool could sign in summer as Slot admits he 'can't accept' Nunez

Arne Slot's recent criticism of Liverpool ace Darwin Nunez has opened the door to an exit for the Uruguay forward - so who could they sign to replace him?

Nunez has endured a difficult season under Slot and scored six goals across 35 matches. The 25-year-old has been limited to opportunities from the bench in the Premier League since the turn of the year with the likes of Luis Diaz leading the line instead.

The Reds forward has drawn interest in the past and was even linked with the Saudi Pro League in January. Liverpool had no intention to sell at the point, but Slot has already admitted the summer could finally see him bring in players of his own.

The Dutchman has revealed that Darwin has left him frustrated in recent matches, though not for his misses. "I helped him by saying you can miss a chance," Slot said.

"I wasn't only hard on him. But for the second time in a row I wasn't happy with his work effort, against Wolves and against Villa.

"I can't accept if a player doesn't give everything. That is clear. I can accept it once, but twice was a bit too much. That's why I addressed it.

"Not that I'm all of a sudden very angry with him. I don't mind that he missed a chance, I'd have loved him to score it, and I know he will eventually score. But if you miss a chance, you need to be fighting for the team. I'm not saying he didn't do that at all, but it wasn't the usual Darwin, the one that is loved by the fans. That is mainly because he always works so hard.”

So if the Reds dip into the market to find a replacement this summer, who could they sign? Mirror Football takes a look.

Alexander Isak

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has no shortage of admirers but will not come cheap should the Magpies allow his exit. It could cost around £150million to land the Sweden international with Liverpool and Arsenal touted as suitors.

Isak would be a proven Premier League commodity however.

Matheus Cunha

Wolves star Matheus Cunha has drawn plenty of interest following a season where he has notched 14 goals despite his side's struggles. Despite signing a new contract recently, the forward has a £62m release clause.

The Brazilian would offer a versatile option across the forward line which could see him slot in nicely at Liverpool.

Joao Pedro

Liverpool were linked with a move for Joao Pedro last month with reports suggesting the Reds have monitored the foward for 'almost five years' and have made him 'one of their priorities' for next season. Brighton are notoriously tough negotiators so the ex-Watford star is unlikely to come cheap after they paid £30m in 2023.

Viktor Gyokeres

Another of Europe's hottest properties, Gyokeres seems guaranteed to draw interest this summer. Competition could quickly come from the likes of Manchester United if Liverpool were to return to Portugal for Darwin's replacement.

The Sporting star has racked up 35 goals in 37 appearances and has continued to improve his reputation. A fee in the region of £60m has been touted for Gyokeres, despite the suggestion of an £83m relese clause.

Jonathan David

Liverpool have previously been interested in securing the services of Jonathan David. The Lille forward was shortlisted in the summer the Reds signed Diogo Jota, and could be available for free with his deal set to expire.

Still just 25, David has notched 20 goals in 26 outings this term. West Ham and Manchester United have been listed among contenders for his signature.

Mohamed Amoura

Liverpool were linked with a move for Mohamed Amoura last summer, before the forward completed a loan deal with obligation to buy from Belgian side Union SG to Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga club secured hs signature for close to £14m and could looked to cash in for more than double that price.

The Algerian international has netted nine goals and provided eight assists in 23 appearances this term and offers versatility between leading the line and attacking from the left wing.
