Luca Zidane represented Algeria during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The Granada CF goalkeeper is delighted that Les Fennecs took part in the competition.

The son of legendary footballer Zinédine Zidane chose to represent his father’s country of origin, that of his grandparents. As Algeria’s starting goalkeeper during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, he played a decisive role throughout the tournament.

However, he was powerless to prevent the two goals conceded in the quarterfinals against Nigeria.

On his Instagram account, the goalkeeper addressed a message to Algerian fans. “The disappointment is immense,” he admits. But he acknowledges and appreciates the support of the Algerian sporting public. For him, this support was “our greatest weapon during this AFCON.”

Having accepted the disappointment, Luca Zidane reveals a sense of pride in having defended Algeria. “Deep down, there is something even stronger. Pride. Pride in having experienced my first Africa Cup of Nations. Pride in having worn this jersey, that of Algeria, the country of my grandparents”.
