After Morocco’s defeat to Senegal in the AFCON 2025 final, top scorer Brahim Diaz spoke about his state of mind.

The Real Madrid player, who missed the penalty that could have won Morocco the trophy at the very end of the match, said he was devastated and deeply hurt by the turn of events at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium.

“My soul is in pain. I dreamed of this title thanks to all the love you gave me, every message, every gesture of support that made me feel I was not alone. I gave everything, I fought with everything I had, with my heart above all else.

Yesterday, I failed, and I take full responsibility for that. I offer you my most sincere apologies.

It will be difficult for me to get back up, because this wound does not heal easily… but I will try. Not for myself, but for all those who believed in me and for all those who suffered with me.

I will continue to move forward until the day I can give you back all that love and become a source of pride for my Moroccan people,” he said.
