AS: Barcelona Continue Pursuit of Alvarez as Bid Reaches €120 Million

According to AS, Barcelona continue their attempt to sign Alvarez despite the deal's difficulty and time constraints.

Barcelona made a significant push when sporting director Deco met with the Argentine's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, in Madrid. The meeting prompted Barcelona to adjust their strategy for signing the forward. Rather than waiting for Alvarez to publicly declare his desire to leave—as he did during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar when he stated he "wanted to fulfill a dream"—Barcelona will now pursue direct communication and negotiation.

Alvarez will return to training as scheduled without making public statements. He will then meet with the coach and communicate with club management to clearly express his desire to leave Atlético Madrid and join Barcelona exclusively.

Given that Simeone and Miguel Ángel Gil have previously refused to let the player leave, it remains uncertain whether this approach will succeed. All parties must now decide whether to retain a player who has openly expressed his wish to depart. The player and his agent will remind Atlético Madrid of their previous understanding: if an attractive offer materialized, they would permit his departure.

While Alvarez considers Barcelona's offer attractive for both parties, Atlético Madrid disagrees. Typically, such player-club negotiations are accompanied by a significant financial increase. Barcelona's initial offer fell below €100 million, then reached that figure, and now stands at approximately €120 million.
