After 25 successfully converted penalties, Sergio Ramos' run ended in remarkable fashion on Saturday night.
The Real Madrid captain missed twice from the spot in Spain's draw with Switzerland at a time when La Roja needed a goal more than at any other.
Yann Sommer in the Swiss goal stopped both, the first with a fine hand and the second by having the nerve to wait until the very last second, allowing him to easily gather a failed attempt at a Panenka from the defender.
Ramos hadn't missed from the spot since May 9, 2018 at Sevilla. Since, he had scored 23 in competitive games and two in friendlies.
He took both with his usual style, but the Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper was equal to both, meaning Real Madrid might have to assign another take should they be awarded a penalty against the Germans in the Champions League group stage.
The second penalty miss carries more weight though. Luis Enrique spoke to the player at the side of the pitch, perhaps to ask him to leave it to Alvaro Morata. But Ramos took it, and he missed again.
The match marked Sergio's 177th appearances for Spain, allowing him to become the most capped European player.

Messi didn’t miss a penalty this year but Christiano did. Guess you’re a Cristiano fan to exclude him and include Messi. Disaster class.
