Andrea Agnelli and Antonio Conte insulted each other in Juventus-Inter, but what’s the story behind their tense relationship?
It was a night full of drama at the Allianz Stadium where Juventus held Inter to a goalless stalemate reaching the 20th Coppa Italia final in their history.
Andrea Agnelli and Antonio Conte made headlines with a variety of insults coming from both sides during the half time break and after the final whistle.
The relationship between them collapsed in the summer of 2014 when Conte, who had won three Serie A titles in a row, handed his resignation one day into pre-season.
The Italian tactician had brought Juventus back to the top of Italian football, winning the first Scudetto of the post-Calciopoli era in 2012 after the Old Lady had finished seventh in the previous two campaigns under Ciro Ferrara, Alberto Zaccheroni and Luigi Delneri.
A few months before he had questioned the club’s transfer strategies saying: “You cannot go to eat at a €100 restaurant with just €10 euro in your pocket, can you?”
His decision to resign took Juventus by surprise with the Old Lady who rushed to hire Massimiliano Allegri.
In 2017 Agnelli taunted his former coach saying Allegri “carried on a job that for others seemed finished” with Conte who replied on Facebook: "Don’t ever think you fully know someone. Sometimes only a minimum of gratitude and maturity would be enough.”
In 2019, Fabio Paratici and Pavel Nedved thought about brining Conte back to Juventus after Max Allegri’s sacking, but Agnelli vetoed his return and opted to hire Maurizio Sarri.
Conte joined Inter instead, becoming the new biggest enemy of Juventus fans.
“Conte is and will always be a Juventus legend,” Agnelli said exactly one year ago, but the pair has never really cleared the air, as last night proved.

But Conte will still be a legend for Juventus. No matter what they think, true and loyal Juve fans know what Conte has done for them both as a player and as a manager. There are still some Juve fans who love Conte till this day. I think with time when Conte retires from management, he will clear everything. He is a coach of a rival team
