Aguero girlfriend: He joined Barca for Messi, then Messi left & he was diagnosed with heart disease

Recently, Aguero's girlfriend, Sofia Calzetti, spoke on a podcast about the difficult circumstances surrounding Aguero's retirement in 2021.

In 2021, due to cardiac arrhythmia, "Kun" Aguero was forced to retire at the age of 33. He had only joined Barcelona six months prior and was just starting to get playing time, but life had other plans for him, and he had to bid farewell to the football pitch entirely.

Sofia Calzetti said, "Everything happened very suddenly and was extremely painful. He was experiencing one setback after another. He suddenly left Manchester City after 10 years, came to Barcelona full of hope to play alongside Messi, and then Messi left, followed by his retirement. All of this happened in an instant."

She continued, "I think sometimes our heart or body expresses things that we can't put into words. He had been maintaining an extremely high level of competitiveness for many years and was feeling exhausted. He started very young, making his debut at 15. Things happen for a reason, but that was indeed a very difficult period.

"Suddenly, our entire life order was disrupted, and we felt lost because it was completely unplanned. Everything changed completely in one day. I remember his mother was also there, and aside from those terrible days in the ICU and during surgery, when the doctor announced the results, his mother cried her heart out.

"Fortunately, he handled it quite well himself. He was very strong. I was worried about the post-surgery situation, not knowing how he would be. He had prepared thoroughly for the World Cup, found a new physical therapist, adjusted his diet... he was at his peak at that time. At some moments after his retirement, I felt he experienced psychological states similar to panic attacks."
