Sergio Aguero has been left with egg on his face after promising to cut off his TESTICLES if Manchester City lost to Real Madrid.
The reigning Premier League champions welcomed the Spanish giants at the Etihad Stadium for the first-leg of their Champions League playoff clash. And they ended up throwing away what would have been a priceless victory.
Erling Haaland had given City the lead before Kylian Mbappe's equaliser. The hosts then thought they had secured a vital win through Haaland's late penalty but strikes from ex-City star Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham's injury time winner completed a stunning turnaround for the Spanish giants.
And while the defeat will be painful for City, it could be even more bruising for legendary former striker Aguero, who had issued a bold prediction ahead of kick-off.
Speaking on the Som I Serem FCB Podcast, the Argentine said: "Real Madrid can not beat Man City. If they beat City, I will cut off my testicles."
Aguero had also placed a $10,000 bet on there being two goals scored in the first half, money that he has been forced to kiss goodbye to with Haaland's opener the only one before half time. One of his former rivals Wayne Rooney also gave his verdict on City's collapse and claimed that Guardiola's side went into the game with a sense of naivety.
Speaking in Amazon Prime Video, the former Manchester United star said: "There was a lot of naivety from Manchester City, especially late in the game. The players tonight were looking round at each other, almost with a lack of belief in each other, and I think that is a worry for Guardiola."
Aguero may choose to be a little more humble before next week's return leg in the Spanish capital. City now must win if they want to secure a spot in the last 16 of the competition.
Should they fail to do that, it would signal their earliest exit from the Champions League since the 2012/13 campaign, were they were eliminated at the group stage - albeit the competition is now in a new guise following a UEFA revamp.
Before that, City have another testing game as attention turns back to the Premier League. Guardiola's side welcome Newcastle to the Etihad Stadium this weekend and will be aiming to claim a spot back in the top four with a victory.
