With the Gianluca Prestianni-Vinícius Júnior case still simmering, the competition doesn’t stop. On Saturday at Estádio da Luz, Benfica hosts AVS in a key Portuguese league match - and they’ll do so without the Argentine.
Prestianni is set to serve a Primeira Liga suspension that will prevent him from being available for José Mourinho against AVS. The winger picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in last Friday’s match against Santa Clara and must now see out a one‑game ban.
The 20-year-old earned the suspension when he was booked for not leaving the field quickly enough after Mourinho moved to substitute him in the 90th minute. Benfica were leading Santa Clara 2-1, and Prestianni tried to kill a few extra seconds to help his team close out the win. The referee didn’t hesitate and showed him the yellow card - one that now rules him out of the AVS clash.
Will Prestianni miss the UCL second leg?
That means he won’t get any minutes before Wednesday’s visit to Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League knockout-round playoffs. If involved, Prestianni will undoubtedly be at the center of attention when the Portuguese side travels to Madrid next week. According to Record, the Argentine is unfazed by the pressure of going to the Bernabéu. The Portuguese outlet reports that he has no fear of the potentially hostile atmosphere awaiting him in Spain and is fully prepared to make the trip.
What remains to be seen is how far UEFA’s Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector goes in response to Vinícius’s allegations of racist abuse by the Argentine - and whether the case will be resolved before the second leg, potentially resulting in a suspension for Prestianni. Madrid has submitted all the evidence in its possession to UEFA.
Mou sidesteps media
In this tense climate, Mourinho’s words to the media could prove decisive. But once again, the Portuguese manager is sidestepping questions.
Benfica has announced that Mourinho will only speak to the club’s own channel. His appearance is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. ET on Friday. So anyone wanting to hear what the Portuguese coach has to say ahead of the AVS match - and whether he addresses any further what happened in the tie against Madrid - will have to wait for the BTV broadcast. It’s not a new situation, as Mourinho has chosen this approach several times already this season in Benfica’s pre‑match media duties.

This is what used to happened to Neymar most especially against Atletico Madrid, if you scored and provoke your opponents, this is usually the end result, By now vini should be a train player, since he refused to change, he will always face these types of situations.

Thank you for telling the truth. Every action has a reaction and this is coming from me(a black man). He has had 20 racism cases in just 8 years and that should tell you exactly what you need to know.

Bro, do you think if Alves was in his shoes, he would have done things differently? He wouldn't react. He wouldn't report to the referee. So, I ask: when has dancing after scoring become provocative? Did he have to run back to his own corner flag to celebrate? Before you respond, remember it's the samba way. Ronaldinho, Neymar Jnr., Adriano, Rivaldo, Bebeto, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo de lima... they all danced; why can't Vini Jnr. do the same without people seeing it as provocative? I come in peace!
Well said bro!! Including Cameroon’s 🇨🇲 iconic Roger Milla during Italy 🇮🇹 1990 WorldCup who danced similarly

He wasn’t given a yellow card because he dance, but because of the way he reacted to the fans. Go and check again. And all those players you mentioned were better than him, even Ronaldinho was given a standing ovation 👏 at Santiago, that’s Barca arch rival, do you think any club will do such for Vinicius outside Madrid ?

There are better ways to get things done, he’s not doing things in right way and he’s also creating enemy for himself, despite all he has been doing, has the racism stop. I’m not saying this because I’m not a Madrid fan, so don’t think I’m against Vinicius, but there are ways to get things done and not provoking people, he’s not the first black Brazilian and i can tell he has create more enemies for himself than other black players. A banana was thrown at alves, he are it instead of confronting the fans, Vinicius in the position would have start shouting at the fans pointing fingers

Senseless comments. Benfica is too small to cause a concern for Realmadrid especially as the game was already over on Tuesday

Please people, try to read correctly the news about that issue. The main cause of all this was the manner vini celebrated his goal. José Mourinho said that he loves vini but the way vini celebrated his goal was a lack of respect towards Benfica, said José Mourinho.

but to speak the truth also vini has a problem why is it always vini vini as if his only black player in the world.vini must also change his behavior when celebrating.
please what was wrong with his celebration? dancing with the flag? or were you expecting him to run to barnebeu and celebrate before coming back to continue the game? as for your question it's because he's the only black player that have the boldness to continue fighting racism at the expense of his career we saw such heroics with Mario balloteli
