Ancelotti says coaches 'can't tell the whole truth' after Pochettino said Mbappe would stay at PSG

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti gave a cryptic response to Mauricio Pochettino stating Kylian Mbappe would '100 per cent' stay at PSG, claiming 'coaches can't tell the whole truth'.

Mbappe's contract with the Ligue 1 side expires this summer and is widely expected to leave the club, with Madrid the frontrunners to land his signature.

PSG are preparing to make big changes this summer - with boss Pochettino expected to be sacked - while the future of Neymar has come under question, though the head coach vowed to stay in charge and said Mbappe would definitely be at the club next season too.

'100 per cent in both cases,' Pochettino said when asked if he and Mbappe would be staying at PSG next term. 'That is how I feel today. That is what I can say to you today. I can't say anything else. That is how I feel right now.

'There haven't been any concrete talks, beyond what is normal in terms of our plans and what we have been doing so far.'

When Ancelotti was asked about Pochettino's comments ahead of Madrid's clash against Espanyol this weekend, he hinted that Mbappe's future might not be so certain after all.

'Coaches at a press conference can't tell the whole truth,' he said, via the Athletic.

'Madridistas think of two things, winning tomorrow and winning on Wednesday. That's what we think about.'

PSG are hopeful they can retain the services of the France international despite clear interest from Real Madrid, who have been long time admirers of the World Cup winner. He has bagged 165 goals in 213 games since joining from Monaco in the summer of 2017.

It comes as PSG weigh up a rebuild of their squad, with Neymar a possible departure.

The French outfit are reportedly prepared to offload the Brazilian by taking a huge loss on the player they paid a world record fee for by placing a price tag of £76million on him.

Neymar arrived at the Parc des Princes to huge fanfare in the summer of 2017 when PSG paid his Barcelona release clause of £198million (€222m) to bring him to the French capital in a move that stunned football.

While the striker has impressed in front of goal since then, scoring 98 times in 141 games, he has along with Mbappe and Pochettino been unable to help the club deliver their target of the Champions League crown.

French daily L'Equipe are also reporting Julian Draxler, Layvin Kurzawa, Leandro Paredes and Thilo Kehrer could also be shown the exit.

As for Pochettino, PSG have reportedly been looking at Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte to replace him, but the Italian is thought to want to double his £13million salary to move to France.
