Unhappy Manchester United players will not be allowed to depart Old Trafford unless they are out of contract.

The club currently have six players out of contract this summer, with Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Tahith Chong and Lee Grant all expected to be moved on in June.

A further six of the playing staff,  Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, Dean Henderson, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly are all keen to leave the club for pastures new.

The future of star Cristiano Ronaldo also remains in doubt, with the club set to miss out on a place in the top four, which will ultimately mean they miss out on Champions League football next campaign.

Marcus Rashford's time at the club may also be coming to an end, given he continues to flatter to decisive this season.

United have told those under contract, they will not be allowed to leave, because of the playing staff already going when their deals expire.

This could well change depending on how many signings are brought in. Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, looks set to be named the Red Devils' new manager.

The likes of Ajax's £70million-rated centre-back Jurrien Timber could be drafted in, and teammates Anthony and Noussair Mazraoui have also been talked about.

United have informed those players who will be blocked from leaving that new boss Ten Hag will give every member of the squad a chance to impress when he takes over this summer.

The hope is that this will prove a catalyst for the under-performing crop of players to deliver between now and the end of the season, with a view to impressing the new manager ahead of his arrival.
