Arias poses a threat to Trippier

Santiago Arias has had to bide his time for an opportunity at Atletico Madrid, but it looks like he's finally staking his claim for a starting spot.

The Colombian spent the first few weeks of this season in the shadow of Kieran Trippier and didn't make his first appearance of the campaign until Matchday 6 of LaLiga Santander.

Trippier's performances have been impressive, but Arias has risen to the challenge and raised his own level.

With Trippier's form dipping slightly in recent weeks, Arias has grasped the opportunity to prove himself with both hands.

He doesn't have the dead-ball skills or crossing ability of his teammate, but he has no difficulty in taking up attacking positions and defending his wing confidently.
