Arsenal third kit gets huge social media reaction as club unveils new jersey

Arsenal's new third kit is said to take its cue from the 1982/83 season and fans have now taken to social media to voice their opinions

Following on from their retro inspired home shirt and their shock yellow away kit, the Gunners have now revealed their new third kit for the 2023/2024 season.

Like the Gunners' two other kits this season, the third kit follows the trend of harking back to the past. The new effort is a homage to the 1982/83 season but offers up a modern twist.

Sporting a mineral green base with collegiate navy shoulders and off-white stylised crest and sponsor logos, Arsenal and Adidas have reinvented a cult classic fit for the present day. Most intriguing though is that the kit has been launched with an accompanying film that brings continental style to the streets of Islington in which Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Leah Williamson are among those who feature in the film that takes in some recognisable landmarks near Emirates Stadium.

The iconic green away shirt from the 1982/83 season was a one-off and this modern-day expression of this classic blends fashion and football seamlessly.

"As these worlds continue to collide, we’ve looked to create a kit that is, first and foremost, primed for performance offering the best for the athlete, while also being an eye-catching fashion statement that supporters are proud to wear at matches and away from the stadium.”

The kit has caused a love-in amongst fans on social media with many praising the style of the kit and saying how much they can't wait to see it worn on Champions League away nights. One X user 'Banks' simply said: "MAKE THIS THE AWAY KIT", Mycø Gøøner said: "Now this is a proper kit right here", while another X user under the name hoodfeeelingssss said: "WE GONNA COOK."

The new kit will be worn by Arsenal's men and women’s teams across the Premier League, Women’s Super League, domestic cups, and the UEFA Champions League. It is currently set to be worn on-pitch for the first time by Arsenal Women on October 22 when they take on Bristol City away in the WSL. Depending on the draw, it could be worn as early as September when the men’s team return to UEFA Champions League action.
