Arsenal are extremely busy in the summer transfer window, having completed a signing while negotiating deals for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal have reached a key moment in the summer transfer window, with two big deals in the pipeline.
The Gunners have already made the three major signings of Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard, but are not slowing down yet. Mikel Arteta knows they need more reinforcements if they are to close the gap to top spot in the Premier League after three successive second-place finishes.
Fans have been crying out for a centre-forward for years and are beginning to get annoyed that one hasn't arrived. After looking at Benjamin Sesko, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has settled on Viktor Gyokeres, but things are complicated.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also chasing a winger. After chasing Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams and considering a move for Real Madrid's Rodrygo, it is Noni Madueke they are going for. Read on to find out how those chases are going.
Signing completed
Arsenal have signed Marcell Washington, the son of former Chelsea and Southampton star Ryan Bertrand. He becomes the latest player to swap Chelsea for Arsenal, earning a deal after impressing as a triallist.
He is a 17-year-old left-back will wear No.55 at Arsenal next season. Speaking about his father, Washington said: "I think it's been such an honour to have him take me through clips and walk me through games that I've played. He's really passionate about making me a better player and probably a better version of him. We might have a bit of an argument about it but you get it out of him."
About Arsenal, he added: "I think it's a really big club, obviously. The club are always striving to win trophies. I'm just looking to be an addition to that and see what I can offer the club.”
Madueke timeline
Arsenal are close to signing Noni Madueke in a £52m deal - and Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca isn't hiding that fact. "Noni is in contact with a new club," said the Chelsea boss ahead of the Club World Cup final. "I guess that he's going to leave in the next hours.
"I said in one of the last press conferences that at the end, if players want to leave, at the end, it's difficult for the club and for the manager. Noni decided to leave, nobody told Noni he had to leave. If he is happy, we are happy."
There has been a negative reaction from some supporters to the Madueke interest, with many annoyed that Arsenal are signing another player from their London rivals. But the England winger is keen on the transfer and it looks set to go ahead in the coming days.
Gyokeres fined
Viktor Gyokeres has been fined by Sporting Lisbon - but Arsenal are closing in on a deal for the Swede.
The Gunners have made significant steps forward in negotiations and are pushing to complete the transfer in the coming days.
Gyokores, 27, had refused to report up for Sporting when they returned for pre-season training on Saturday amid an ugly stand-off with president club Frederico Varandas.
Sporting have been demanding upwards of £70m but Arsenal are pushing to get a deal done with Gyokores set to sign a five-year contract. But there remains optimism that Arsenal can get the deal over the line for the Sweden international who has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting.
