According to Spanish media outlet eldesmarque, Atletico Madrid has repurchased 50% ownership of Riquelme for approximately €8 million.
Last December, Atletico Madrid paid approximately €8 million to acquire 50% ownership of Riquelme. Since then, the player's ownership has been jointly held by both clubs, meaning any future sale would require agreement from both parties.
The arrangement stems from a complex agreement reached between the clubs last summer, designed to provide mutual financial benefits during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons. Under the deal, Real Betis sold 50% of Riquelme's ownership to Atletico Madrid after the club had purchased his full rights a year earlier for approximately €15.5 million.
The structure allowed Real Betis to reduce amortization costs on the player's contract (which runs through June 2030) by halving annual installment payments. Atletico Madrid fulfilled its part of the agreement, Betis recovered half of its investment, and Riquelme is now jointly owned by both clubs.
