Atletico's injury woes continue

Most things beyond Atletico Madrid's performance levels this season could not have been predicted. Their injury issues have to be highlighted and Diego Simeone's life has been made difficult by the constant plaguing of his side.

Physical problems have been ever-present this season and have been damaging to the team's on-field results at the most important points of the campaign.

Atletico travelled to Turin without any left-backs after Lucas Hernandez and Filipe Luis had suffered injuries, leaving Juanfran to switch flanks, and there were also issues in central defence due to Stefan Savic's own concerns.

Additionally, 31 of their injuries this term have been muscular, which perhaps could have been avoided.

Little could have been done to prevent the 12 impact injuries that have seen Lucas, Nikola Kalinic and Gelson Martins sidelined.

Costa the most affected

Three muscle injuries and other impact injuries have seen Diego Costa suffer a lot in 2018/19 and the forward has missed close to 50 percent of his team's games, watching on from the stands on as many as 22 occasions.

His consistent absence is one of the reasons the club moved for Alvaro Morata in January, with him being one of the few to have kept fit so far.

The defensive department has been the one most hit. Savic has missed 14 games, Lucas 15, Filipe 13, Jose Gimenez 12, Diego Godin nine, Juanfran eight and Santiago Arias four.

Only seven have remained fit

Antoine Griezmann, Jan Oblak, Antonio Adan, Rodri, Thomas Partey and Angel Correa - along with Morata - are the only players to go unscathed so far this season.
